Shreveport, LA to Laredo, TX

Another good day for being on the road.

Headed west from Shreveport I-20 then southwest into Texas on Hwy 79. Picked up Hwy 59 in Carthage and continued on toward Huston. North of Houston Hwy 59 turns into I-69, passing through Houston and just to the south where it one again reverted back to Hwy 59. This was almost all of the slab that I had to deal with today.

Back on Hwy 59 I soon left the congestion of Houston behind me and was now riding in the wide open landscape of southeast Texas on my way to Laredo. Reached Laredo around 4:45pm. Found the motel and checked in. Found a casa de cambio and got the pesos that I would need for the rest of the trip. Went to a restaurant next door where no one spoke English. Had dinner, back to the motel, and organized my gear for the border crossing in the morning.

Laredo, TX to Matehuala, SLP

Left Laredo around 7:00am an crossed the border into Mexico with no Problems or delay. Arrived at the CIITEV around 7:10am and went inside to start the process for the paper work. Only one service counter open and around 15-20 people standing in line. Another 20 minutes or so and 4 more people opened up their service counter and the line started moving without too much delay. Visitor’s Permit (FMM) acquired, required copied made, and soon I had my Temporary Vehicle Importation Permit (TVIP). Back to the bike and I was ready to start heading south again. Entire process took about 1hour and 20 minutes. A little slower than usual.

Heading south in Nuevo Laredo I ran into heavy fog. By the time that I was south of the city, the fog began to lift and the sun was back out again. Continued south on Hwy 85D through Monterrey and Saltillo. Senic ride through the mountains.

South of Satillo I picked up Hwy 57 and had a non-eventful ride into Matehuala.

Matehuala, SLP to Durango, Durango

The day started out mostly cloudy and was threating to rain. I picked up Hwy 62 just north of Matehuala and headed west. The clouds continued to increase and the air became saturated with moisture as I continued across Hwy 62.

Before I reached my next turn on Hwy 54, the clouds began to break up. By the time that I had turned south on Hwy 54 the clouds are all gone and I had only sunshine all the way to Durango.

Picked up Hwy 45 in the town of Zacatecas and headed back northwest into Durango.

Found my motel room in Durango and the riding was done for the day.

Durango, Durango to Mazatlan, Sinaloa

On the road again and heading across the Sierra Madre Occidental and then down into Mazatlán.

Stayed on the libre (hwy 40) to take full advantage of the ride across the mountains and curves.

Arrived in Mazatlán by early afternoon. Settled into the hotel which was across the street from the malecon and beach. Did a short walk on the malecon and later had dinner. Marco and Ellena dropped by the hotel for a while and then we called it a night.
